Shaping the Future of Pharmacy: Insights from the Dean’s Desk

Q1: What inspired you to pursue a career in pharmacy education and eventually become a dean?:

Pharmacy has always fascinated me as a field that bridges healthcare and science. Over the years, I developed a deep interest in not only practicing pharmacy but also shaping future professionals. Becoming a dean allowed me to influence academic policies, curriculum, and research while mentoring young minds to become ethical and competent pharmacists.

Q2: What is your vision for the Institute of Pharmacy?

My vision is to establish the institute as a center of excellence in pharmaceutical education, research, and innovation. We aim to produce pharmacists who are industry-ready, research-oriented, and compassionate healthcare providers, contributing both nationally and globally.

Q3: How does your institute stay updated with the rapid changes in pharmaceutical science and technology?

We constantly revise our curriculum based on industry trends, regulatory requirements, and feedback from stakeholders. We encourage faculty development programs, industry collaborations, and participation in national and international conferences to ensure our educators and students stay ahead in the field.

Q4: What are some of the key challenges in pharmacy education today?

One of the main challenges is balancing theoretical knowledge with practical application. Another is keeping up with rapid technological advances such as AI in drug discovery or precision medicine. Additionally, ensuring soft skills development, ethical practice, and regulatory knowledge is a constant focus.

Q5: Can you share any recent achievements or milestones of the institute?

Recently, our students won accolades in a national-level pharma quiz competition. We’ve also signed MoUs with leading pharmaceutical companies for internships and research collaborations. Our faculty published papers in reputed journals and secured government funding for research on drug formulation and delivery systems.

Q6: How do you ensure holistic development for students beyond academics?

We emphasize co-curricular and extra-curricular activities such as industrial visits, community outreach programs, personality development workshops, and soft skills training. Our goal is to create well-rounded professionals who are skilled, empathetic, and socially responsible.

Q7: What advice would you give to students aspiring to enter the pharmacy profession?

Stay curious, keep learning, and maintain a strong ethical foundation. The pharmacy field offers immense opportunities—from clinical research and regulatory affairs to entrepreneurship. Be open to innovation, and always prioritize patient welfare and safety.
