Empowering Expression: A Thoughtful Exchange with the Dean of University School of Language and Communication

Women Day

Interviewer: Thank you for joining us today. To begin with, could you share the vision behind the University School of Language and Communication?

Dean:

Thank you for having me. The vision of the University School of Language and Communication is to nurture linguistically competent, culturally sensitive, and globally aware individuals. We aim to provide an immersive learning experience that equips students with communication skills critical in academic, professional, and social contexts.

Interviewer: What programs or courses are offered by your school?

Dean:

We offer undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in English, linguistics, media communication, and translation studies. We also provide certificate courses in foreign languages such as French, Spanish, and German. These programs are designed to develop strong language skills, critical thinking, intercultural competence, and professional communication abilities.

Interviewer: How does the school integrate practical learning with theory?

Dean:

We ensure that students receive hands-on experience through language labs, media production studios, internships with publishing houses, news agencies, and PR firms. Additionally, students participate in debates, group discussions, research projects, and communication workshops, which help them apply theory in real-life communication scenarios.

Interviewer: What role does research play at the School of Language and Communication?

Dean:

Research is a core part of our academic environment. Our faculty and students are involved in research across areas like sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, media communication, and language pedagogy. We host conferences, publish journals, and encourage interdisciplinary collaboration, which allows students to engage with current issues and develop original contributions to the field.

Interviewer: How is your school responding to the growing importance of digital communication?

Dean:

Digital communication is at the forefront of our curriculum. We have integrated courses on digital media writing, social media strategy, content creation, and virtual presentation skills. Students are encouraged to develop blogs, podcasts, and digital portfolios to prepare for the evolving communication landscape.

Interviewer: What initiatives are in place to promote multilingualism and cultural understanding?

Dean:

We celebrate language diversity through language festivals, cultural exchange programs, and collaborations with international institutions. Our language clubs provide students with a platform to explore different cultures through films, literature, and discussions. Promoting multilingualism not only enhances cognitive abilities but also fosters global citizenship.

Interviewer: What qualities do you think are essential for students pursuing careers in language and communication?

Dean:

They need to be curious, observant, empathetic, and excellent listeners. Strong writing and speaking skills are essential, but adaptability and cultural sensitivity are equally important. In today’s interconnected world, communication professionals must bridge gaps, tell compelling stories, and promote understanding.

Interviewer: Lastly, what message would you like to share with aspiring students?

Dean:

Language is more than a tool—it’s the essence of human connection. If you’re passionate about words, meaning, expression, and making an impact through communication, this field will open countless doors for you. At our school, you’ll find the guidance and opportunities to grow into a confident, thoughtful communicator.

Interviewer: Thank you, Dean, for sharing your insights. It’s been a pleasure speaking with you.

Dean:

Thank you. It’s been a pleasure. I look forward to welcoming new minds into our vibrant community of language and communication enthusiasts
